Nagisa Sekimizu look.2
taking a breather in refreshing spring fashion!
Nagisa Sekimizu started acting after graduating from senior high school. She is bright and outgoing, is passionate about the work and gutsy in her act. I asked her about her work as an actor, her outlook on the future, and her recent interests.
In the TV drama “#who am I” she plays the protagonist Akane Aoi who loses sight of her real self doing SNS and falls prey to it. She has also acted in solo pieces and is making strides as an actor. Is there anything that she is particularly mindful of in playing a role?
“I don’t have any particular regimen, but I focus on the role in front of me. This is a role that I have been entrusted with so I can’t afford not to be conscientious on the set of the film. My role in “#who am I” was a difficult one and I thought about being true to the character Akane Aoi. Rather than trying to relax and have fun on the film set, I thought about building my character in my free time and heightening my concentration. It sounds simple, but I believe that it boils down to thinking about the work above all else and doing your best. It is also important to not play it safe, but to put yourself on a limb and continue exploring the character.”
From her demeanor, I felt her zeal for acting and her sense of responsibility in playing a lead role.
“I wanted to become an actress of my own accord and tried out for auditions. The roles I have played have changed, but I am still very much on the way to achieving my goal. I want to continue this line of work forever! Acting is a part of who I am. It is such a large part of my life that if someone asked me what my hobbies are, I fear I wouldn’t be able to think of anything else immediately.”
Her reason for aspiring to become an actress was her love of the actor Satomi Ishihara. Does she feel there is there a disconnect between her dreams that she had as a child and the harsh realities of the biz?
“Truthfully speaking, I think it is an industry that you cannot have any longevity in unless you compromise bits of yourself as you go. It may seem glamorous at first sight, but this is just one aspect of the biz. While maneuvering through the industry is hard at times, the sense of gratification from accomplishing a job is so great that I would not trade it for anything. It is very encouraging when many viewers empathize with my character!”
I asked her about what roles she wants to play in the future, and her response was surprising. Apart from film and TV dramas, she also loves anime. One that she is engrossed in now is called “Chainsaw Man.”
“If a live-action film is ever made, I want to star in it! It is truly a piece that I like. There is attention to detail in character development and I love all of them. While I don’t have a favorite character in this anime, if I had to choose, it would have to be Power (laughs).”
She is stoic and charming and loves fashion. With the coming of spring, she enjoys spending time thinking about what to wear.
“I often obtain my fashion information by watching YouTube. I watch fashion journalists, check out items that catch my fancy, and go to shops to seek them out. The changing of the seasons is a reason to go shopping (laughs)! I loved to wear a pair of boots in the winter, so I am interested in buying a pair of light and airy sneakers for spring! I want to go out dressed casually but stylishly!”
What she is particular about with her fashion sense is the color. She appreciates the power of the garb and the color in affecting her mood when she throws something on.
“I like yellow garb and find myself taking such items in hand for a closer inspection. I like primary colors as they lift my mood. Chic black garb makes me feel cool and adult-like. I also enjoy wearing shiny material like silver on my feet that grabs the eye as a style point.”
For Look 2, Ms. Nagisa undertakes the challenge of wearing a fashionable and sporty monochrome outfit and hairdo.
“I love the sporty mini skirt with the imbalanced look of the back. I don’t often wear my hair up to expose my brow, but it is refreshing! I apply make-up thinly most of the time, so this cool styling of hair and make-up makes me feel like I have discovered a new me!”
She has done well as an actress and is curious about fashion. Nagisa Sekimizu will continue to take rapid strides in her work as an artist!
