She is intuitive about her choice in dress-up: Finding that one item that matches her taste

She is now an in-house model for the fashion mag “non-no” and as an actor has played a few roles in noteworthy works in 2024 including the TV drama “Ao-Haru-Ride” and “Blue Moment” and films such as the Netflix movie “Drawing Closer” and “Honeko Akabane’s Bodyguards.” She has been attracting attention having done some good work in various media. She sports a clean fresh look dressed in Onitsuka Tiger’s 2025 Spring/Summer Collection.

“I have a few pairs of Onitsuka Tiger shoes in my wardrobe.” Ms. Deguchi who is popular for her sensible look on social media says she incorporates Onitsuka Tiger into her own wardrobe!

The key element for look 1 is an oversize blue dress shirt. This is a special collaborative item with Astro Boy to commemorate the brand’s 75th anniversary. Added to this is a grey knit skirt and leather loafers for an elegant and laid-back outfit!

“I wear mostly monotone garb and don’t throw in more than two colors to any ensemble. I choose garb so that my silhouette highlights my body’s natural contours. The garb that I wear for Look 1 incorporates my own tastes too, but the combination of the blue oversize shirt and grey knit skirt is refreshing and I enjoyed it immensely!”

Fitting her with soon-to-be-released Onitsuka Tiger garb inspired her.

“The photo shoot allowed me to discover aspects about the garb that I want to add to my own garb; such as how you can wear an oversize dress shirt in this way or combining a tight skirt with loafers is also cool. The Astro Boy graphics are a highlight and cute too!”

The photo shoot’s flashiness was enhanced by her making the most of the allure and features of the dress-up but putting them on naturally. It means that she has built up a rapport with the garb and appreciates how to throw it on. I asked her if she has any rules in choosing garb.

“As I get to wear diverse clothing in my modeling work, I tend to buy clothing items that I know I look good in. I am the type of person who makes my mind up instantly without wavering so I am a quick shopper; but I also regret buying things (laughing.) But by wearing a lot of diverse items, I intuitively know things such as how a camisole with a square neckline suits my body more. The gig gives me the wherewithal to discern a shape and design that is right for me.”

She loves dress up and must have made a few mishaps here and there in the course of cultivating her fashion sense. I wanted to know more about her artless, playful side and asked her when she is able to be her own self. She quickly replied, ‘when I am with my friends!’”

“I can be myself with my hometown friends. Even when I don’t talk much, everyone else talks a lot so it is a lot of fun (laughing). As long as I am with everyone, I can relax both body and mind. What we talk about maybe superficial such that I don’t remember what we discussed (laughing). It probably relates to what we are all doing these days with our lives. When I feel down and out I want to have people around me who will lend me an ear so that I can vent. My friends know this about me so they lend me their ear. My friends are truly a source of solace!”

She engages in idle gossip when she meets up with friends. This is a source of solace for her above all. But there are times when she feels a little bit lonely.

“No one asks me about my work. If I have to attend the opening for a movie or an event, I ask my friends if they want to come along because they wouldn’t ask me to take them along (laughing). Perhaps they would feel the need to be unassuming watching me work. But then I feel kind of dejected so if I invite them by saying ‘do you want to come to the opening’, then they make up a pep rally board to encourage me at the event. When I meet my friends one on one they don’t really compliment me, but they do create a space where I can be myself.”

Having discovered Ms. Deguchi’s considerate personality in taking care of her friends makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I became more familiar with her when I asked her about what she likes to do ordinarily.

“I enjoy falling asleep again after waking up one time. So that I can go back to sleep, I purposefully set my alarm 10 minutes earlier and wake up once (laughing). I very rarely go back to sleep five times. In this case, I would get up four times to reset my alarm; I turn the alarm off, reset it, and repeat. I do this when I have to go to work or on my days off (laughs).”

“Being able to go back to sleep is fortunate don’t you think? You don’t think it’s strange do you?” she laughs without compunction. On her days off, she relishes going back to sleep once or twice, then enjoys spending her day at home. But she recently visited Paris on work and caught the travel bug.

“On my days off, I am lounging around on the sofa or on my bed. I put a blanket around me and zone out watching anime. A little while ago I was watching “HUNTERxHUNTER.” It is truly a great show! I also think about where to go for vacation if I have time off. If I have many days off, I want to go abroad. When I went to Paris for work, the cityscape was lovely and I liked to walk around the town. I want to visit different countries and see different townscapes. There are many places I want to go to such as Spain or Taiwan; it isn’t bad to be troubled by such cares (laughs).”

I felt she has the gift of being able to enjoy where she is at the moment. She takes new experiences constructively and makes it a source of spiritual nourishment. The sense of well-being that I feel from Ms. Deguchi may be her positive aura that comes out through her work. I can’t wait to take a look at her first calendar! She says the photo shoot was work but she felt good too.

“We did a shoot on the beach during a beautiful sunset or produced a rainbow for an invigorating scene. The shoots were all made in stunning backdrops so that you don’t realize they were shot in Japan unless someone told you. It was great fun also. There is the me splashing about having fun; and then there is the me with an adult flair – they managed to capture me in various guises. The calendar is filled with a larger than life me in the natural state. It is filled with marvelous photos so by all means take a look at it!”
