The Fun in Wearing Denim and Discovering a True Friend

Keito Tsuna winning the Grand Prix in the 2017 Junon Superboy Contest opened doors for him. The next year he was cast as Meruto aka Ryusoulger Blue in “Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger.” He has since appeared in countless film and TV dramas such as “Me and Future Me!?” and “366 Days.” He is also a fashionista making appearances at awards shows.
For Look 1, Keito-san wears Onitsuka Tiger’s first denim collection “DENIVITA.” All the garb is Japan-made and the colors, the feel of the garb, and the form have been assiduously crafted. This ensemble consists of a superbly deconstructed matching top and bottom that fits snugly the more you wear it. I asked him what he thought about the garb, and he replied with a laugh that he still has yet to learn about denim.

“I’ve been into style since my student days, and in recent years I like to wear garb that I can easily throw on like a jersey and sweatpants. I am not so knowledgeable about denim as I have only recently taken an interest in it, and I want to try on different items. I was surprised to discover that Onitsuka Tiger has been putting this much effort into its garb. This photo opp has made me want some denim for my personal use! I also liked the t-shirt which is a collaborative item with Astro Boy with its memorable design. It’s like you can enjoy this Spring/Summer season with this t-shirt together with the denim!”

I asked him about what is important to him and his answer impressed me. He talked about his on and off the screen friendship with fellow actor Kohei Higuchi. They met on the Ameba reality TV show “Who is the Wolf?” and became close friends overcoming adversity together. They will appear together as dear friends for the first time in a film “Nemuru Baka” scheduled for a Spring 2025 release. He related some anecdotes about the filming.

“I had acted with Kohei several times before, but never so intimately as with this film, so I was looking forward to us playing best friends on film. It is quite meaningful that the two of us who were friends back when we had no work are appearing as best friends in the same film. I had only known Kohei as a friend off the screen so I was a little apprehensive about working closely with him on stage as well, but we both had a switch that we flip on so I only perceived him as Kohei playing Ito when we acted. But there was a mood that we were able to bring about only because we are good friends in real life.”

Who is Kohei Higuchi for you?

“Kohei uplifts my spirit. Friends are a source of positive energy for me. I have only known him for four years but I spend most of my time with him. I think it is not often that you meet someone who you click with so well like a hometown friend, and when I am with Kohei it is like coming home. Kohei also says the same thing about me. A good and kind person. I am glad to know him.”

Keito Tsuna treats his good friend with care and says he is bad at going it alone. I got the impression that he is frank and dislikes being alone, but these qualities are also what appeal to others.

“I’m bad at going it alone but have recently started eating out on my own. I can go to ramen, family restaurants, and Japanese mom and pop diners. I probably can’t go to yakiniku and sushi on my own as it would be too lonely. I don’t cook at home; rather, I can’t cook. I hardly use the kitchen so it has become sitting space (laughing.)”

→ For Look 2, I ask Keito Tsuna about his recent aspirations and goals.
