Fourth Event at Tiger Gallery™
Opening of an exhibition of new works by Geneva-based artist Maurice Mboa

As the fourth event in our Tiger Gallery™ art gallery project in progress since last summer at our London flagship store, we at Onitsuka Tiger present “Immersion,” a solo exhibition gathering new works by Geneva-based Cameroonian artist Maurice Mboa.

Maurice Mboa is currently focused on a unique type of artistic activity involving engravings carved into painted steel panels. The works show faceless people amidst sprawling, complicated biomorphic designs created by various changes produced by natural processes, employing coloration as well as the quality and luster of the steel to convey the innermost thoughts of the subjects.

Speaking of this collaboration with Onitsuka Tiger presenting a new series with the tiger as its main theme, Maurice Mboa says, “The tiger is powerful, elegant, courageous, and a symbol of good luck. Onitsuka Tiger is a brand that has built all of these qualities into its products, and I am trying to convey the same thing by using the tiger as the theme of these works.”

Maurice Mboa’s solo exhibition “Immersion” is being held in the gallery space at Onitsuka Tiger’s flagship store on Regent Street from April 28th to May 27th, 2023.
The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 A.M. to 6 P.M. and on Sundays from 11:30 A.M. to 6 P.M.

■Maurice Mboa
Born in 1983 in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Currently based in Geneva, Switzerland. Held a solo exhibition at the Pace Gallery in Geneva in 2022, and has shown works in group exhibitions in venues such as the Pace Gallery in Palm Beach, Florida and the Nassima Landau in Tel Aviv, Israel, presenting works in Africa, various countries in Europe, the Middle East, the United States and elsewhere. “Immersion” is Maurice Mboa’s first solo exhibition in England.
