This is Part 2 of our Nicole Fujita interview!
At just 21 years old, she relies on her instincts and is full of ambition; and with her, what you see is what you get.

Nicole Fujita is careful to maintain her unique sensibility as she climbs the ladder to success. She just turned 21 in February, and we go deep in this segment, asking her about everything from childhood until now, in a life that has demonstrated her feminine viewpoint on work-life balance and garnered the admiration of those around her, plus we find out where she sees herself in the future.

What can I accomplish, and just how far can I make it on my own?
Mom is always right there behind me, giving a gentle nudge in the right direction.

A different kind of sensibility is needed when working for TV, or magazines, or producing brand name products, so what is it that helps her flip that switch to go from one role to the next?
“For each different job, I have a kind of natural switch that just automatically turns on. I can’t think about it from a personal perspective or resist the natural flow, so I just have to trust my instincts and go with it.”

There are times when she drops by her store, in between personal things and work, and someone will make a remark like, Hey, this is Nicole Fujita’s store, isn’t it! “Hearing things like that makes me partly happy and partly anxious. But when people don’t know who I am, that’s my chance to get real, honest feedback, so sometimes I’ll go and do some undercover work that way. At the moment, I’m excited about my March pop-up store in Osaka”. It’s situations like that when she wears her Producer mask in order to discuss the branding industry.

All of her current endeavors stem from a single event back in elementary school. “My mom handed me this nicola audition form, and ever since that moment it helped to make me more aware of my world. I wasn’t much of a student, and I didn’t really have any redeeming qualities, so I was pondering the question of what to do with my life, when my mom created that opportunity for me with the audition.” For Nicole Fujita, her mother plays a central role in her life.

“Being raised with a woman’s touch has such an impact. In New Zealand, with no other Japanese people around, my mother gave birth to me. So I want to challenge myself to see how far I can go on my own too. My mom recently went by herself on a month-long trip to India. She’s so free-spirited, active, and full of life. We’re complete opposites in terms of personality, but I really admire the way she lives her life.

There’s so much that I want to do,
In my 20s, and in my 30s.

From elementary school all the way up until adulthood, she’s been a model. And so, the question was then posed to her; if not this line of work, what else would you be doing with your life? “Oh, there’s so much that I want to do! I love video games, so it would be interesting to learn how to make video game-related products, or do something having to do with video games. Also, I’d like to work on in the cosmetics industry, in product R&D or something.”

She’s 21 now, and a little more mature, mentioning that the Nicole of today is totally different from the past in that respect, as she ponders retiring from modeling while in her 20s. Now she’s looking at the next ten years, as well as the following ten.

“If you’re doing all kinds of different things, there’s less time for each individual endeavor. So, when I start to slow down a little, I want to have the time to focus on just one thing. Lately I’ve been thinking that it might not be so great to be working all the time. I think it’s just as important to spend as much time on the things that really interest you. So, if I keep my nose to the grindstone for just a little longer, then after that I can do what I want to do. Now I’m 21, and I think it would be good to work in radio for a while, and then around 25 I want to launch my cosmetics brand. After that, I want to settle down and have a family. Then, by the time I’m 30, I want to focus on me!”

So now that you’re 21, do you feel like you’ve enjoyed your youth?
With just having as much fun as you can as the driving force.

Always trusting her instincts, whether it be in her personal life or at work, the most important time in Nicole’s fast-paced life is the time she spends on her appearance, as she shows us what a real 21-year old woman actually looks like. “Ever since my junior year of high school I started getting busy, and I’ve had to give up all my free time. I missed out on my youth, I never really cut loose and had a really good time with friends or anything like that. When I turned 20 I was able to drink alcohol, so I figured it would be okay to let off some steam that way every once in a while. I try to budget my time to have one day a month on which I can go out and have fun, as long as I get four hours of sleep. It allows me to have a bit of a break from everything, talk to lots of different people, that kind of thing. Then the next day, I’m recharged and ready to get back at it. I want to prioritize my time with my friends, too.”

On top of that, she’s recently bought a video camera and equipment, and is working on making YouTube content too. She’s starting to get into using social media as a platform for her interests, “I like doing makeup, so I make videos showing the makeup I normally use, and how I usually do my face. Depending on the situation or who I’m meeting, I’ll do my makeup differently, so I’m thinking I’ll do a kind of makeup tutorial or something. And I can use my computer to edit the videos. I’m actually not very tech savvy, but I’m doing my best to create some good content,” and using her interests as the motivating spark to extend her reach. Nicole Fujita is a real mover, so don’t blink.

Nicole Fujita

Born on February 20th, 1998, in Saitama Prefecture. Pisces. Blood Type A.


She made her modeling debut in 2009 at the 13th annual Nicola Audition Grand Prix. After graduation and until 2017, she modeled for Popteen, where she developed professionally and made a name for herself. She’s working to establish herself as a “charismatic” teen model. Currently she’s a model for fashion magazine ViVi.


In 2018, she had 297 TV appearances, and twice consecutively ranked in the top ten female TV celebrities. She has also appeared in various commercials and other events, spanning the genre gap.


She launched her first brand in 2018, NiCoron. It was available last year at Shibuya 109 and Shinjuku Lumine Est, and in March of this year made its first Kansai appearance at Hep Five.


She has about 2,430,000 Twitter followers, and 2,510,000 Instagram followers (current as of January, 2019).
