Crystal Kay look.1

We interviewed Crystal Kay who will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of her debut next year, and is taking her music to the next level.

Since her debut single in 1999, Crystal Kay continues to captivate people with her powerful and warm vocals. In June this year, she released her new album in over two and a half years titled, “For You.” In LOOK.1, let’s take a look at her active fashion style for the fall/winter.

── What are your thoughts on today’s photo shoot?

I approached the shoot with a natural attitude (laughs). My wardrobe was comfortable to wear! I liked the one-piece inner and the color was also cute. It was a layered look with a light impression.

── Did you know of Onitsuka Tiger?

Of course! I had a general image of Onitsuka Tiger as a shoe brand, but I knew of the apparel from last year and have been interested in it. I think the design collection depicting a sketch of New York City life was cute.

── What kind of fashion do you wear privately?

Basically, I wear clothes that are comfortable and make me feel good. So today I wore this Onitsuka jersey (laughs). I also enjoy wearing my basic style of jeans and a T-shirt, and coordinate this with heels for a girly look, or a turtle-neck. I coordinate my look depending on my mood to suit my body shape and according to what suits me.

── Are you a pants-person or skirt-person?

I wear pants quite often. I also have a lot of sneakers (laughs). It is boring if they are all a certain color and design, so I have a wide variety.

── Do you have a favorite shopping spot?

If I see something I think is cute while walking by a shop window I’ll go right in (laughs). I find things I like wherever I am. I more often buy things based on my gut feeling.

── Do you have a secret for maintaining your proportions?

I work out, but I enjoy eating a lot (laughs). Recently I am into a dietary method of not eating anything for 16 hours, then eating during the remaining 8 hours. During these 8 hours, I will mix it up depending on how I feel, such as by eating a lot of vegetables, or having lunch if I want to eat a lot of carbs.

── Is there a fashion that you want to wear this autumn?

Let me think. I am drawn toward splendid colors such as shocking-pink and bluish-green. I thought a long coat with these colors was cute.

Let’s ask Crystal Kay! Q&A

Q. What is your favorite color?

I have always liked blue from an early age.
I also like yellow and green.

Q. What is your favorite season?

Autumn. I can wear trendy clothes and the air is fresh.

Q. What is your favorite smell?

The changing of seasons. It smells like autumn now. I like smells like that.

Q. What do you put on your eggs?

Salt and pepper.

Q. What items do you always carry with you when you go out?

Lip balm. And a battery charger (laughs).

Q. What artist were you influenced by?

Michael Jackson. My parents listened to African-American music, so I listened to it and was shaped by it.

Q. What place do you most want to go to right now?

Southern France or Italy.

Q. What is your favorite place in the world?

The living room at my parent’s house (laughs).

Q. If the last day of the Earth were to arrive, how would you spend it?

I would spend it eating good food at home with my family! We would have a good time singing and dancing (laughs).

Q. What did you want to be as a child?

A dolphin trainer. Or an actress. Also a figure skater (laughs).

Q. What costume do you want to wear on Halloween?

I want to dress up like a gal. A Yamamba-like gal (laughs). I want to walk around Shibuya and see if people recognize me.
