OK Basketball: A rich history

The "OK Basketball" might distract you with its very clean and modest design, but this model was the first actual shoe design Kihachiro Onitsuka made in the 1950's.
Before Kihachiro Onitsuka founded Onitsuka Corporation (today known as ASICS) in 1949, there were no Japanese companies that specialized in making sports shoes. That was a time when ordinary exercise shoes or even tabi footwear were worn when playing basketball. Anyone who wanted special footwear could only try to get hold of US militarysurplus goods. Then a high school basketball coach asked Kihachiro Onitsuka to come up with a special shoe that would be suited for sudden stops and quick dashes in indoor gymnasiums. Onitsuka rose to the challenge by designing and developing the first Tiger brand Basketball Shoe
