This OK BASKETBALL LO style is made from material produced by Sansa Sakiori Koubo. The upper of this model incorporates sakiori material that was created by weaving scraps of synthetic leather. This synthetic leather was destined for the garbage heap, but Onitsuka Tiger, in a bid to contribute to a more sustainable society, worked with Sansa Sakiori Koubo, so that the scraps were reborn anew as an environmentally conscious material.

Every step of the process is done by hand so you can really feel the hand-made warmth in the design. Sakiori is a form of craftsmanship—a wisdom of the people—passed down in the Tohoku region from long ago when cotton was extremely precious.

The process takes old cloth and tears it into thin strips that are then carefully woven, thread-by-thread, into a new material using a traditional loom. Almost every step of this process is done by hand and through this handy work the artisan’s love for the crafting of things is also woven into the material. This gives rise to the unique texture, full of warmth, that no machine can replicate.

The OK BASKETBALL LO has strong links to the original mid top and shares the rich history of being the first shoe developed with footwear technology by our company. Today it has been redesigned and complemented with modern comfort and technology.
