ASICS, the true sport performance brand, and the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) today revealed the Australian Olympic Team delegation and competition uniforms for Tokyo 2020.
Australian Olympians and Tokyo 2020 hopefuls including Charlotte Caslick, Henry Hutchison and Maurice Longbottom (Rugby Sevens) Jake Birtwhistle (Triathlon), Katie Ebzery (Basketball), Lisa Darmanin (Sailing), Aidan “AJ” Roach (Water Polo), Marina Carrier (Modern Pentathlon), Lucy Stephan (Rowing) and Tom O’Halloran (Sport Climbing) presented the ASICS uniforms to be worn during the Games starting this July, in front of the iconic Sydney Opera House.
Design and development of the ASICS uniform began in 2018 and has seen over 125,000 units of apparel and footwear produced for what could be Australia’s largest ever Olympic Team for a Games outside of Australia, with an expected Team of around 480 athletes across more than 30 sports, as well as coaching and support staff.
he range features iconic Australian green and gold colour schemes with Japanese origami inspired graphics highlighted throughout, designed to express the power and pride of the Australian team.
The ASICS Tokyo 2020 uniform range includes a shirt incorporating a design by Indigenous artist and Olympian Boxer, Paul Fleming. Titled ‘Walking Together’, the design includes footsteps representing the 52 Indigenous athletes who have competed at an Olympic Games and a central meeting place signifying the Olympics bringing together people from all countries, backgrounds and cultures.
In developing the uniform, the ASICS Institute of Sport Science (ISS) considered the heat and humidity which athletes will face in Tokyo and developed a cooling print, strategically placed mesh and technical fabrics to overcome the conditions. The technical mesh is placed in high heat zones which were identified through the (ISS) testing phase. The cooling print is applied to the interior of garments and causes a cooling sensation upon contact with sweat. The raised print creates a gap between the skin and the fabric so that the garment does not stick to the athlete, enabling air flow to cool the athlete.
Aligning to ASICS’ corporate sustainability targets to reduce CO2 emissions by 38% in direct operations by 2030, 30 percent of the AOC range is made from recycled polyester.
Rugby 7s athlete Charlotte Caslick said “We’ve been working towards the Tokyo Games for five years now and we’re excited to finally take our preparations into what is the pinnacle sporting event in the world. We’ve made it through a few obstacles to get to this point but we’ve been training hard and we have a uniform that will allow us to perform at our best.”

Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) President John Coates AC has announced today that ASICS will be the official Team competition and sportwear apparel partner for future Olympic Teams up until the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games.
Announcing the partnership at this morning’s Annual General Meeting, John Coates welcomed the multinational corporation to the Olympic family for the first time.
“I am very pleased to announce and welcome ASICS as our new Olympic Sponsor in the competition, training and Village apparel and footwear category for our teams for the Youth Olympic Games later this year and the 2020 Olympics,” Coates said.
“This followed an approach I made while in Tokyo last December and will see the host team, Japan, Australia and Uruguay as the only teams outfitted in this prestigious brand in Tokyo.”
ASICS will provide sports competition and training apparel as well as casual leisure wear and related footwear to a Team of 800 athletes and officials at the Tokyo 2020 Games, as well as outfitting the Youth Team at the 2018 Games.
“The AOC is excited to welcome ASICS on board as an official Team partner for the first time in Australian Olympic history,” said AOC CEO, Matt Carroll.
“ASICS will play an important role in providing uniforms for our future Olympic Teams and it seems even more fitting that Australia will represent a brand that was founded by the host nation, Japan.
“I am sure our athletes will be proud to wear ASICS as they represent Australian on the Olympic stage.”
The partnership will see ASICS provide apparel for the AOC at the following events:
Youth Olympic Games - October 2018 (Buenos Aires, Argentina);
Summer Olympic Games – August 2020 (Tokyo, Japan)

ASICS, the true sport performance brand, has renewed it’s partnership with Rugby Australia for a further six years. The new contract will come into effect as of 2020, with the deal continuing until the end of 2025.
The updated deal is an extension of the original contract signed back in 2014, where ASICS became the official apparel and footwear supplier of Rugby Australia.
The contract extension means the QANTAS Wallabies will wear ASICS at not only international tournaments in Japan next year and France in 2023, but will also be kitted out in ASICS when the British & Irish Lions travel to Australia for their tour in 2025.
Rugby Australia Chief Executive, Raelene Castle said: “Through this partnership extension ASICS has given a strong vote of confidence in Australian Rugby by committing for the long haul as we look forward to a number of exciting major tournaments and tours over the coming years across all of our national teams.
“Our athletes are proud to wear the ASICS brand and we are delighted that we can continue to work with ASICS to carry on the traditions of our game and elevate the performance of our national teams through the next two Rugby international tournaments in Japan in 2019 and France in 2023, the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020 and the Women’s Rugby international tournaments in 2021 and 2025.”
Under the new partnership, all Australian Rugby teams, including the QANTAS Wallabies, Men’s and Women’s Sevens, Wallaroos and Under 20s teams will wear ASICS apparel and footwear, with the ASICS logo appearing on jerseys and training kit.
Through this extended deal ASICS will continue to work closely with sponosred athletes in the Men’s and Women’s 7s teams inclduing Henry Hutchison, Charlotte Caslick and Emilee Cherry, to gain vital feedback on products; as well as Wallabies Israel Folau, Bernard Foley and Adam Coleman.
