STEP INTO COMFORT ON THE WORKSITE, WITH ASICS’ ALL-NEW WORK BOOT RANGE

[11TH MARCH, 2025 – Sydney, Australia] – Sports performance brand ASICS is stepping off the sporting field and onto the worksite with the launch of its very first Australian work boot range. Globally renowned for quality and comfort across its sportswear, the new range of ASICS work boots are designed for general trades and light industry workers looking to feel light on their feet all day.

Launching in two styles, a mid-cut and a low-cut, the ASICS Working range leans into the brand’s reputation of comfort, combining the comfort of an ASICS running shoe, with the protection of a work boot in a lightweight design that ensures wearers feel both support and lightness throughout their work days.

Comfort at the fore

Ankle padding is combined with fuzeGEL™ across the ASICS Working range providing shock absorption and protection for the feet and ankles. Constructed from lightweight materials to keep the boot weight to a minimum, both the low-cut and mid-cut styles aim to provide all-day comfort, allowing wearers to stay agile and comfortable, even during long shifts.

With the unpredictability of worksite conditions, the ASICS mid-cut style model also features a waterproof GORE-TEX™ upper and liner, helping to prevent water and mud from entering the shoes’ interior whilst keeping feet cool throughout the day.

Advanced Protection

Each model of the ASICS Working range features a composite toe cap for added protection while helping to keep the boot’s weight light, making them the perfect option for airport workers. Featuring an oil-resistant rubber outsole, both models in the ASICS Working range provide a puncture-proof shield and improved grip, helping to make the boots slip-resistant. All boots in the range are also anti-static.

With the BOA® Lacing System, the ASICS work boots offer a precision fit in seconds, through micro adjustments made via a simple dial system. With time of the essence for busy tradespeople, the boots are easy to slip off with the pull of the dial.

Both models in the ASICS working range are certified to Australian Standards (AS 2210.3:2019).

A step away from sportswear

Speaking on the brand’s move into work boots, ASICS Oceania Managing Director, Mark Brunton said, “As a sports performance brand, with comfort and performance at the fore of our product innovations, and a long history of shoe development, we’re in a unique position to step in to new footwear categories that leverage this heritage to produce quality products.

“Boasting the comfort of a running shoe in the form of a work boot, we’re excited to offer something new to the working category – a product that elevates all-day comfort and performance, enhanced through a lightweight design. Our goal is to provide tradespeople with footwear that not only meets their safety needs but also ensures they remain comfortable throughout their demanding workdays,” he said.

The ASICS Working range will come in two models, the CP3 S3 BOA® (low-cut, black only) and CP6 S3 G-TX BOA® (mid-cut, black and sand colourways) and will be available in men’s sizes 6-12, 13, 14 and 15.

The CP3 S3 BOA® (low-cut) will retail for $220 AUD, and the CP6 S3 G-TX BOA® (mid-cut) will retail for $270 AUD. The range will be sold exclusively through ASICS.com/au.

  • With today marking the 30-day countdown to the Paris 2024 Games, the official uniform partner of the Australian Olympic team, ASICS is encouraging all Australians to ‘lace up’ and get behind our Olympians.
  • New research from ASICS has today revealed one in six Australians dreamt of being an Olympian as a child, while as many as two thirds have tried a new sport after being inspired by an Olympian.
  • ASICS is calling on all Australians to join the Lace Up Australia Olympic Challenge on Runkeeper and move their minds in the lead up to the Games.

With just 30 days until the Paris 2024 Games, sports performance brand, ASICS, the official uniform partner of the Australian Olympic Team, is rallying all Australians to ‘Lace Up’ and get behind the Australian Olympic Team. In anticipation of this milestone, ASICS is launching Lace Up Day, a nationwide event encouraging Australians to embrace the Olympic spirit and get moving in support of our athletes.

The significant influence that the Olympics has on Australia’s sport loving nation is clearly articulated in new research[1] unveiled by the sports performance brand to mark the countdown. Not only do Australians love to watch Australian Olympians compete on the world stage, but as many as 1 in 6 revealed they dreamt of becoming an Olympian themselves as children, with 26% wanting to win gold in track and field events, followed by swimming (15%), soccer (8%), and tennis (8%).

While the majority of those who dreamt of competing in the Olympics gave up because they didn’t believe they were good enough (53%), half of those who held this dream still play that same sport today (50%), a testament to how people are able to commit to physical activities when they enjoy them.

[1] Independent research agency, Antenna, conducted research on behalf of ASICS Oceania via an online Antenna Poll survey of 1,018 Australians. The survey was conducted between 7th to 9th May 2024. The survey data collection was national, and respondents were sourced using an accredited online research access panel. Data was weighted for representation against country census data.

The nationally representative study of over 1,000 Australian adults also found that two-thirds have been motivated to try a new sport after watching the Olympics. Further, more than a quarter of respondents also stated that beyond the initial inspiration, they have continued with their chosen sport for at least two years after taking it up, highlighting the long-lasting impact these major events have on everyday Australians to lace up and get moving.

Mark Brunton, manager director at ASICS Oceania, says, “As a sports performance brand, ASICS believes in the positive power of sport and movement, that it can transform us individually and as a community. Our Olympians make an enormous contribution to the lives of everyday Australians. Not only through their jaw-dropping athleticism, or their ability to bring us together, but by serving as a beacon of inspiration to all of us to lace up and get our own bodies moving.”

He continues, “To celebrate this contribution and show our Olympians just how much they mean to our  nation, we’re inviting all Australians to join us today for Lace Up Australia Day, simply by moving in any way that feels good to them and sharing how they get active using #LaceUpAustralia.

One of those who grew up hoping to compete in the Olympics was Kelsey-Lee Barber, an Australian track and field athlete who is in Paris preparing to compete in the javelin throw. Having competed for most of her life, and being an Olympic medallist and Commonwealth Games winner, Kelsey-Lee shares her four top tips for people looking to turn their Olympic dreams into a reality, or anyone looking to making exercise more of a focus in their life:

  1. Set goals along the way and find your 'why'. Find a measure as to why you want to do this, that goes beyond outcomes. What gets you excited about chasing your dream? What keeps you coming back for more and keeps you grounded when things aren't going to plan? It’s important to acknowledge these drivers and set small goals along the way to help you achieve them.
  2. Build up your support team. It is crucial to build a team of people around you who are going to support your dream. These should be people you can trust and most importantly lean on when times get hard. Without the right people around you it can be easy to give up hope when things get rocky.
  3. Create a supportive environment. Finding an environment that will support your dream early on is so important. Find a coach you work well with, a team with teammates you can lean on and relate to and work well with, especially if your sport is a team sport. You will also want to find the right facilities to base yourself at, so you can train to your very best every time.
  4. Believe in yourself. Self belief and surrounding yourself with people who will love and support you on your journey is crucial. Committing to movement will be an adventure with ups and downs, and the power of self-belief with supportive people around you can result in amazing achievements. And it will leave you with lasting memories with your favourite people.

Kelsey-Lee also acknowledges the importance of supporting wellbeing to maintain balance in life, “Pursuing big goals and dreams can take a lot from you and it’s important to not lose yourself in that pursuit. Looking after my wellbeing and striking that balance allows me to give everything to my training and competitions while still enjoying my life outside of athletics,” she says.

Mark echoes the importance of prioritising a balance when it comes to your wellbeing, even if your Olympic dream is off the cards, “ASICS believe in achieving a Sound Mind in a Sound Body, through the positive power of sport and movement. Whether you are an average Joe, or a pro, it all starts with lacing up, because when you move your body, you move your mind, and there’s no better feeling.”

To be a part of the Lace Up Day Challenge, register your participation for free on the ASICS RunKeeper App (available for download via all leading app stores) and simply complete five, 20 minute sessions of exercise as we count down the 30 days until Paris 2024. #LaceUpAustralia

Australians who exercise throughout their teenage years have higher State of Mind scores in adulthood, but younger generations are worryingly less active.

• Global ASICS study of 26,000 people shows connection between movement and the mind and uncovers a direct link between teenage physical activity and adult mental wellbeing.

• Each additional year a teenager remains engaged in exercise is associated with improved State of Mind scores in adulthood, as calculated across ten cognitive and emotional traits.

• Australians who regularly exercised at 15-17 years old are more active later in life and report higher State of Mind scores as adults than those who weren’t active during these years.

• Yet, younger generations are disengaging from exercise earlier and in larger numbers, potentially impacting their mental wellbeing now and for years to come.

[9 April 2024. Sydney] – Today, ASICS is announcing the results of its second Global State of Mind Study, which reaffirms a positive link between physical exercise and mental wellbeing and uncovers a link between being physically active in teenage years and positive mental wellbeing in adulthood.

The study, led by Professor Brendon Stubbs of Kings College London, a leading researcher in movement and the mind surveyed over 26,000 respondents across 22 countries, and found that the more people exercise, the higher their State of Mind scores.

The ASICS State of Mind score is out of 100, calculated based on the accumulative mean scores across ten cognitive and emotional traits – positive, content, relaxed, focused, composed, resilient, confident, alert, calm, energized. In Australia, the study revealed that those who are regularly active1 have an average State of Mind score of 63/100, while inactive2 people have a much lower State of Mind score of just 52/100.

Compared to the global average State of Mind score of 65/100, Australians sat 4 points lower at 61/100. In fact, Australians are ranked as having one of the lowest State of Mind scores, coming 17th out of the 22 countries surveyed despite activity levels being slightly above the global average, with 57% of Australians engaging in regular activity compared to the global average of 56%.

The study also uncovered that being physically active in your teenage years directly impacts your mental wellbeing later in life. Participants who engaged in exercise throughout their adolescence report higher activity levels and State of Mind scores as adults. The findings indicate that remaining active as a teenager is key to establishing good exercise habits that last into adulthood and positively impact adult mental wellbeing.

In fact, the study was able to pinpoint the ages of 15-17 as the most critical years for staying active and when dropping out of exercise was likely to significantly affect your mental state for years to come. In Australia, those who regularly exercised between the ages of 15-17 years have an average State of Mind score of 60/100 in adulthood, whereas those who were not active during those years have a score of 54/100.

Globally, those who stopped exercising before the age of 15 display an average State of Mind score 15% lower than the global average with 30% still inactive as adults. This cohort also showed to be 11% less focused, 10% less confident, 10% less calm and 10% less composed compared to those who were able to exercise throughout adolescence.

Worryingly, the study also uncovered an exercise generation gap, with younger generations being increasingly less active, impacting their State of Mind score. In Australia, almost half (54%) of the Silent Generation (aged 78+) said they were active daily in their early childhood, compared to 33% of Millennials (aged 28-42) and just 20% of Gen Z (aged 18-27), showing a concerning trend of younger generations being less active and dropping out of physical activity earlier than the generations before them.

Gen Zs in Australia have a significantly lower average State of Mind score of 56/100 compared to the Baby Boomers’ (aged 59-77) score of 69/100 and the Silent Generation’s 72/100.

Professor Brendon Stubbs, a leading researcher in exercise and mental health from King’s College London, said: “It is worrying to see this decline in activity levels from younger respondents at such a critical age, particularly as the study uncovered an association with lower wellbeing in adulthood. Gen Zs across the world are already exhibiting the lowest State of Mind scores in comparison to the Silent Generation, so this could be hugely impactful for future mental wellbeing across the world.”

Australian-based psychologist and ASICS ambassador, Meg McClurg notes that the ages where kids are dropping out of physical activity also aligns with some of the more important years in their young academic lives, “The teenage years are a time of huge developmental changes in the brain; the brain starts ‘pruning’ away circuits that aren’t being used and strengthening those that are.

“Thus, the experiences of teenagers are incredibly important for short- and long-term wellness. For many, the pressures of the last few years of school; to perform in the classroom, maintain a solid friendship network and commit to regular physical activity can become too much and as a result, it’s often the latter that gives. While the research highlights that parents should take note, it doesn’t take a lot of movement, as little as 15 minutes, for our kids to feel the benefits not only on their health, but their wellbeing. As the research concludes, establishing these active behaviours in our kids’ youth will pay dividends as they move into adulthood.”

Mark Brunton, Managing Director, ASICS Oceania said: “ASICS was founded on the belief that sport and exercise benefit not only the body, but also the mind. It’s why we’re called ASICS: ‘Anima Sana in Corpore Sano’ or ‘Sound Mind in a Sound Body’. The results of our second global State of Mind Study show how important it is that young people stay active and the impact this can have on their minds for years to come.”

To showcase ASICS’ ongoing commitment to movement, the brand will be launching ‘Lace Up Day’ this June, inviting individuals, friends, sporting clubs and schools to join in and ‘lace up’ to not only feel the benefits of movement, but to also celebrate the one-month count-down to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and Australia’s incredible Olympians. Whether a simple walk around the oval to rally behind our Olympic athletes, or a Park Run with friends, participants are encouraged to share the ways they are choosing to lace up by posting their events to social media using the hashtag #laceup. More information will be released in the coming month.

“At ASICS, we’re committed to supporting and inspiring people to move for positive mental wellbeing throughout their lifetime. With Olympics a pivotal sporting moment that unites us as a nation like no other event, Lace Up is an exciting way to bring together the Australian community of all ages to not only rally behind our athletes but feel the incredible benefits of movement,” concluded Mark. • New study of 1,000 Australians reveals the motivations to move are no longer driven by the number on the scales, but a focus on improving mental wellbeing.
  • Compared to five years ago, Australians now prioritise mental and physical health, over and above physical appearance, with Millennials leading the shift.
  • ASICS is calling on all Australians to Lace Up in the lead up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, to feel the benefits of a sound mind, sound body through movement that feels best for them.

14 June 2024: Weight loss is no longer the reason Australians are choosing to exercise, according to new research[1] from sports performance brand, ASICS. The study of over 1,000 Australians found that exercising for mental health is now the primary reason people move their bodies (28%) compared to five years ago when the main motivator was for weight loss (17%).

With movement a key driver for improved mental wellbeing, ASICS commissioned the nationally representative study in the lead up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games to better understand the motivations of Australians when it came to exercise. With Olympians a source of inspiration for movement, the brand is calling on all Australians to lace up and get behind the Australian Olympic Team by moving their body in a way that feels best for them, and to feel the benefits of a sound body and sound mind.

As part of the study, Australians were asked to compare their motivations for exercise today, versus five years ago, revealing that a desire to improve fitness levels (23%) and general physical health, including muscle, bone, and heart health (18%) were the secondary drivers for lacing up, with almost half of Australians now focused on their mental wellbeing above all else (40%).

On this shift, psychologist and ASICS ambassador, Meg McClurg says, “The tides are turning, and people are exercising because they love the benefits movement brings them, not because of the shame and guilt associated with what they ate last night, or a dress they feel they need to fit into.

“Exercise is a proven way to manage the stress of life’s demands and is one of the top tactics recommended by health professionals to improve mental wellbeing, so it’s great to see that this message is starting to resonate, and people are understanding that being active is a powerful tool to feeling your best,” she said.

Meg continues, “With the Olympics upon us, now has never been a more inspiring time to lace up your shoes and get your body moving. The motivation our athletes provide to inspire movement is unrivalled, and it doesn’t have to be a HIIT class in order for you to feel the benefits.”

[1] Independent research agency, Antenna, conducted research on behalf of ASICS Oceania via an online AntennaPoll survey of 1,018 Australians. The survey was conducted between 7 to 9 May 2024. The survey data collection was national, and respondents were sourced using an accredited online research access panel. Data was weighted for representation against country census data.

When it comes to those who move for mindset, Millennials are leading the change, with over a third (35%) revealing mental wellbeing as their main motivation for exercise, with Gen Zs following closely behind (34%).

Meg adds, “For years, so many of us have felt societal pressures to look a certain way, but these attitudinal changes are proof that Australians are realising that feeling good on the inside is more important than anything you could measure on the scales.”

According to Meg, this shift shows a promising approach for the future generations, noting that Millennials and Gen Z will likely raise their children under the same philosophy of doing things to promote a sound body and sound mind.

“Whilst younger generations have led the way in terms of prioritising mental wellbeing, our research has encouragingly shown that Baby Boomers and Gen Xers have also moved towards exercising to improve such things as muscle, heart, and bone health. This highlights how Australians recognise that being active is beneficial to many aspects of their wellbeing.”

No matter what the motivation to move is, Meg acknowledges that the hurdle to getting started is often the biggest barrier for many, “It’s common to set yourself up to fail unknowingly, so I always recommend the following tips to set yourself up for success to achieve both the physical and mental benefits of exercise.”

Meg recommends to:

  • Take time to self-reflect. Start off by considering the reason you haven’t started your exercise journey. Is it a lack of time, money or motivation? Maybe you struggle with mental health, or have a lack of confidence? Often there is something else that needs to be addressed to allow you to prioritise movement. Understanding this, and dealing with an underlying root barrier, is critical to making a positive change.
  • Build a support team. Whether these are family or friends also looking to make a positive change or simply a personal trainer to hold you accountable, finding ways to keep your goals and intentions front of mind is an easy way to maintain consistency and feel the benefits of movement.
  • Move in a way that feels good for you. There is a commonly perceived idea that you must be doing the “right” type of exercise at the right intensity and frequency for it to be effective, which can often leave you dreading getting started. Instead, find the thing that gets you excited to move. Whether that’s a game of netball with your local club or a gentle walk on the beach, movement for mental wellbeing is all about finding the thing that both inspires you to start and leaves you feeling empowered when you finish.
  • Start small, then start even smaller. If you don’t currently exercise at all, don’t start by aiming to exercise five days a week. Start simple! Lace up your running shoes, pack your workout necessities, head to your place of exercise, and then go straight home. Whether you move for 20 minutes or an hour, the act of getting started is a huge accomplishment and one worth celebrating!

Meg says, “Think of change like a set of stairs. If you try to step from the bottom straight to the top, a) you’re unlikely to make it, and b) it’s likely going to hurt if you fall. You’ll feel defeated each time you try, having to start from the bottom all over again. It’s vital to take it one step at a time, and experience success in the early days of making a change in order to make it stick.”

ASICS, the true sport performance brand, has renewed it’s partnership with Rugby Australia for a further six years. The new contract will come into effect as of 2020, with the deal continuing until the end of 2025.

The updated deal is an extension of the original contract signed back in 2014, where ASICS became the official apparel and footwear supplier of Rugby Australia.

The contract extension means the QANTAS Wallabies will wear ASICS at not only international tournaments in Japan next year and France in 2023, but will also be kitted out in ASICS when the British & Irish Lions travel to Australia for their tour in 2025.

Rugby Australia Chief Executive, Raelene Castle said: “Through this partnership extension ASICS has given a strong vote of confidence in Australian Rugby by committing for the long haul as we look forward to a number of exciting major tournaments and tours over the coming years across all of our national teams.

“Our athletes are proud to wear the ASICS brand and we are delighted that we can continue to work with ASICS to carry on the traditions of our game and elevate the performance of our national teams through the next two Rugby international tournaments in Japan in 2019 and France in 2023, the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020 and the Women’s Rugby international tournaments in 2021 and 2025.”

Under the new partnership, all Australian Rugby teams, including the QANTAS Wallabies, Men’s and Women’s Sevens, Wallaroos and Under 20s teams will wear ASICS apparel and footwear, with the ASICS logo appearing on jerseys and training kit.

Through this extended deal ASICS will continue to work closely with sponsored athletes in the Men’s and Women’s 7s teams including Henry Hutchison, Charlotte Caslick, and Emilee Cherry, to gain vital feedback on products; as well as Wallabies Israel Folau, Bernard Foley and Adam Coleman.

Mark Brunton, Managing Director of ASICS Oceania commented: “We are delighted to be extending our agreement with Rugby Australia for a further six years.

Rugby has rich history in Australia and we are very proud to be part of that. Our partnership will allow ASICS to continue to work with Rugby across all levels, from the Schoolboy pathways, our world-class Sevens teams and the Wallaroos, through to the pinnacle of rugby in Australia, the QANTAS Wallabies.

We are excited by the opportunity to showcase our innovative designs in performance apparel and sporting footwear at the highest level through Rugby on the local and global stage.”
