The Mexico Mid Runner was not originally found in any catalogs from Tokyo 1964, however, later discovered in the archives of the ASICS Research and Development department in Kobe. The mid-cut feature was intended to support the ankle and was used as a training shoe for long jump, triple jump and pole vaulting. The addition of an espadrille wrapped midsole gives it a distressed deconstructed look, making it cool and unique.
This shoe belongs to our special Onitsuka Tiger X Makumo capsule collection. Makumo is a small, family owned textile house that hand makes prints inspired by traditional Japanese culture. Much of their work is done out of their home, keeping the focus on craftsmanship and quality, and always utilizes the finest loomed canvas from Kurashiki.
